SEAD: Ghana: Katherine McCarthy ’12, Olivia Palma ’13, Katey Fardelmann ‘12G, Victoria Herrmann ‘12
Sustainable Empowerment through Agricultural Development (SEAD): Ghana is a nonprofit organization working with the community of Ajumako, Ghana, to combat underproductive agriculture. SEAD worked with the Kofi Annan Vocational Institute to introduce techniques of Conservation Agriculture to the school and surrounding community.

WISE, LLC: Michael German ‘14G, Surapol Padungthon ‘15G
With the aim of preventing the debilitating diseases of arsenicosis and fluorosis, their product, based on new hybrid anion exchange resins, effectively removes arsenic and fluoride in a sustainable manner. It is expected to enter Indian markets in areas with high fluoride contamination after spring 2012.

South Caucasus Art Partnership: Victoria Herrmann ‘12
The Curatorial and Education Workshop on Contemporary Art and Regional Cooperation aims to create an environment that fosters cooperation and sustainable, cross-cultural partnerships through contemporary art creation, exhibitions, and education between Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia that at present may be hindered by political and ethnic preconceptions. This workshop would take place in the summer of 2012 in Tbilisi, Georgia and would be hosted by the Center for Contemporary Art in Tbilisi.

Fashion For a Cause: Taylor Durovsik ‘13
Fashion For a Cause is a Web-based community that teams up high-end designers, retail stores, generous donors and shelters to create an easy way for low-income women at shelters to receive shipments of clothing from the companies, providing them with a necessary wardrobe, whether for a job interview or a date. Clothing companies list any excess product from the previous season, and women’s shelters go on the website and have these donations shipped to them for distribution.

Engineers Without Borders (LU-EWB) is a multidisciplinary group of students dedicated to learning about and tackling issues of global poverty, international development, and sustainability. This partnership involves implementing sustainable engineering systems that developing communities can own and operate without external assistance, empowering such communities by enhancing local, technical, managerial, and entrepreneurial skills.

ChallTech develops mobile applications that will not only serve as a benefit to the end-user, but foster a creative, ethical, and innovative development process. It aims to provide users with the knowledge and skills to succeed in an ever-evolving market of technologies and features.

COFTEK: Matthew Fuchs ‘12G, Ukrit Thamma ‘12G
This business targets the spread of skin infections in sports activities through use of aqueous ozone, which not only prevents and eliminates germs such as MRSA but also can deodorize and clean. Starting by developing technology to target sports gear, our business aims to grow into a complete system for preventing and eliminating skin infections in the entire sports programs such as facilities, gear/equipment and personal hygiene.

R3GA is a three-dimensional graphing assistant designed to advance the understanding and facilitate the teaching of three-dimensional concepts.

The main struggle novice saw users encounter is being able to handle the tool with exact straightness while cutting. Cutter’s Buddy adds spirit level or bull’s-eye spirit level to a saw to help prevent angle in a saw’s cuts and make them as precisely straight as possible. This allows the user to avoid dangers while helping beginners improve their cutting skills and give extra confidence to experienced users.

The RipSense helps bring peace of mind to adults and children enjoying the ocean at less cost and greater efficiency than other products that aim to address the dangers of swimming in the ocean. It provides consumers with a safer swimming experience with fewer adverse outcomes to swimmers around the world.
